Hello Kitty has gone too far

Look, I'm all for promoting feline magnificence, in both the marketplace and the mainstream media. But Hello Kitty! does nothing to further our cause -- the pink pastels and overly cute caricature of the feline form are an insult to the greatness of the cat species. The craze has gotten way out of hand, as documented by the person who runs the blog, Hello Kitty Hell: One Man's Life of Cute Overload. Pink Hello Kitty electric guitars? Pianos? Shower caps? A tricked out Toyota Scion xB or VW bug? Give me a break!

Hello Kitty is evil, a blot upon the landscape for felines everywhere. Just not "evil" in the way Christians Against Cartoons thinks it is (via Cynical-C). It's probably satire (one hopes so, at least), but the site finds strong similarities between Hello Kitty and the cat-headed Egyptian "sun goddess of destruction," Sekhmet, as well as the "Lower Nile love goddess," Bast. Well, I've met Sekhmet, and believe me, Hello Kitty is no Sekhmet. And Bast? Don't make me laugh. Bast would never stoop to promoting her very own "massage wand" (a.k.a., a vibrator).

The CAC entry ends with an admonition: "Permitting your child to lie in a bed covered in Hello Kitty dolls, you are allowing her to lie in a mock Egyptian burial chamber," adding that this will undoubtedly transform your child, in her teen years, into one of those annoying, heavily masacared "Gothlings" one always sees at sci-fi and anime and role-playing conventions. Parents should be so lucky. It's far more likely their child will grow up to be some nauseating, overly cutesy children's show host, or (gasp) the "wrong" sort of TeleTubbie.

Hello Kitty rots your child's brain. Buy them a book of Egyptian mythology instead and ignite their imaginations.
